Torrey Pines Reserve Area - Del Mar Homes Situated in the southern-most part of Del Mar is the Torrey Pines State Reserve, an undeveloped area of San Diego. Located within the reserve there is the Torrey Pines Golf Course, a marsh, lagoon, many walking trails, and miles of beaches and natural terrain. The reserve is also home to the Torrey pine, the rarest pine tree in North America. There are quite a few restrictions on housing and business developments in this community, so many people live in the Del Mar Terraces or Del Mar Heights neighborhoods. However, there are a few rare homes situated in the natural surroundings that overlook the estuary. Residents can enjoy great views of the ocean while hiking or bird watching. Golfers have made Torrey Pines a very well-known area of Del Mar. The 2008 U.S. Open was held at the Torrey Pines Golf Complex, plus it also hosts the Buick Invitational every year.
